FINDING HER WINGS

Leadership means people
move because you moved first.

Repetition builds skill.
Shortcuts create risk.
Anya Kearns didn't grow up planning to be a pilot. She grew up planning to see the world — and thought becoming a flight attendant was the way to do it. At 15, a Saturday morning program called Aviation Career Enrichment changed everything.

That program introduced her to the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, where she spent a week behind the scenes at Delta Air Lines headquarters, Hartsfield Airport, and Dobbins Air Force Base. By 17 she was flying solo.
"Everyday she felt a new inspiration to just try one more thing."

I guide from real experience,
not internet advice.

Accountability is generational.
The road from there wasn't straight. She moved 12 times in under two years to stay in the right locations and secure funding for her flight hours. She became the first Black female pilot at three consecutive employers.

At 24 she was hired at Endeavor Air as a First Officer. At 27 she was a Captain. When COVID grounded her Delta training in 2020, she applied for positions worldwide and became a Captain in Hawaii — where she learned she was once again the first Black female captain the airline had ever seen.
THE FLIGHT PATH

Making decisions with real consequences.
She returned to Delta in October 2021. In August 2022 she became only the second Black female captain in Delta Air Lines history — not as a headline, but as the next step in a journey she had been quietly building since she was 15.

She serves on the board of Aviation Career Enrichment, as Southeast Region Director of OBAP, and as co-founder of OBAP's Explore Aerospace Program. She has helped raise over $500K in scholarships and guided over 1,000 aspiring pilots through the questions and decisions that define a career in aviation.
